 There are times when massage is not the right course of treatment

Despite its benefits, massage isn’t meant as a replacement for medical care.

Inform your doctor if you are intending to use massage therapy and be sure to follow any standard treatment plans you may have.


Massage may NOT be appropriate for you if the following conditions exist:

  • bleeding disorders or are taking blood thinners
  • burns or open wounds
  • deep vein thrombosis
  • bone fractures
  • severe osteoporosis
  • severe thrombocytopenia


Discuss the pros and cons of massage with your doctor, especially if you are pregnant, have cancer, or experience chronic/unexplained pain.
